About this event
"Trip to Mabou Ridge" is a well known fiddle tune composed by Cape Breton fiddler Dan Hughie MacEachern. Many famous Cape Breton fiddlers have included this tune in their records and live performances. We thought this would be a good name for an event featuring Ashley MacIssac playing in Mabou Ridge.

Ashley MacIssac plays the fiddle with an intensity, authenticity and passion that is hard to deny. He learned his chops at an early age mentored by some of the legendary greats of the area, performing all over the Island in halls, clubs, barns and kitchens. His genre-bending album "Hi How Are You" was released in the mid 90's and the accolades rolled in, the awards, the touring, the interviews and appearances, the persona took shape and the legend took hold.

Ashley has received 3 Juno awards and most recently was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Platinum Jubilee Medal.

Ashley is alternately considered a rebel taking the old fiddling conventions in newfangled directions they were never meant to go, or a champion, reforging and re-creating Celtic music with an updated, mass-appeal quality.

Ashley is a prolific artist having released 14 albums to date and continues to experiment with new sounds, new collaborations, and new projects. Prepared to be entertained with a mix of traditional and non-traditional tunes and maybe even a square set or two on your "Trip to Mabou Ridge".

Pictou musician Judd Gunning will open the show for Ashley. Judd has performed at the Stan Rogers folk festival, Pictou Lobster Carnival and New Glasgow Jubilee. Dedicated to the craft of guitar playing, Jud has been building up a strong repertoire of classic songs and instrumentals.
